Chiastolite, also known as The Cross Stone, is a brown variety of Andalusite that contains a black inclusions of Graphite that resemble a cross. As it was being metamorphosized the Graphite was pushed aside by crystal growth. It was first described by José Torrubia, a Franciscan priest and paleontologist, in 1754.
The name Chiastolite derives from the Greek chiastos meaning "cross marked".
