Sheesham, wood of the Dalbergia sissoo tree, known commonly as North Indian Rosewood, is a fast-growing, hardy deciduous rosewood tree native to the Indian subcontinent and southern Iran. D. Sissoo is a large, crooked tree with long, leathery leaves and whitish or pink flowers. It is a chestnut color with a durable fine grain texture.
 
It grows widely around the world but is considered an invasive species in Australia and parts of the United States. 
 
The tree is frequently planted in urban areas for its shade and visual appeal. A common sight in the Indian furniture trade, Sheesham wood has become increasingly popular around the world for its attractive colors and grain, and for the properties it shares with teak.
