Hand-Carved Bleached Bovine Bone Eagle Cabochon.
Batik Bone beads are hand-carved from usually bovine bone in African countries. They are dyed through the batik method to give them color. The Batik method consists of 'painting' melted candle wax onto a carved bead surface then dipping the beads into a dye, then removing the wax. Some beads may be dyed then etched, showing the white beneath the dye. Most beads are black and white, or shades of brown.
