Serpentine Quartz & Hematite Flat Coin Bead with 4mm hole
Serpentine was named in 1564 by Georgius Agricola (Georg Bauer) from the Latin "serpens" = snake in allusion to the mottled green appearance of the mineral suggesting the resemblance to some snakes.
Quartz is found worldwide and forms at any temperature in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.
Hematite is opaque and is a common mineral, iron oxide (Fe2 3). It's Luster can be metallic, sub-metallic, dull, and earthy. It's steel-grey to black in crystals and massively crystalline ores, dull to bright "rust-red" in earthy, compact, fine-grained material. It dates back to the Mesozoic Period.
